Nowadays, one of Malta's largest cities, Mosta, can be found right in the middle of the island. Its main landmark is the Rotunda of Santa Maria Assunta (often called Mosta Dome).

Rotunda Mosta
The monumental rotunda towers high above all the surrounding buildings and is therefore visible from afar.
The neoclassical building was completed in 1860 and inside you will be impressed by the beautifully decorated interior in burgundy and white colours. The Roman Pantheon served as inspiration for the construction of the rotunda.
The main and practically only architectural landmark is the giant dome with a diameter of 40 metres. With these dimensions, it is currently the third largest dome of its kind in the world.
The Most Church is by far the largest church in Malta.
What to see inside?
The breathtaking dimensions are also visible from inside the church. The dome is not supported by any columns, which makes its size stand out.
On display in the church is a replica of a German bomb that fell through the dome during Mass in World War II, but did not explode.
If you climb the 77 steps, a magnificent view of the dome opens up before you from the inner balcony. From the terrace, you can also enjoy outdoor views of the city of Most.
In front of the rotunda, you can also visit the underground shelters from World War II, where the locals hid from the bombing.
Entrance fees and opening hours
Open to the public Monday to Friday, 9:30am-6pm. On Saturdays it is open from 9:30am to 4pm and on Sundays from 12pm to 5pm.
Last admission is always 30 minutes before closing time.
The entrance fee is 5 eur and is valid for entry to the church, the observation balcony and the World War II shelter.

How to get there?
The Rotunda stands right in the centre of Most.
Parking is free on the adjacent streets, but it can take up to 20 minutes to find a free parking space.
